Mícheál Ó Foghlú, Research Director, TSSG, WIT
Mícheál Ó Foghlú is the Research Director of the Telecommunications Software & Systems Group (TSSG) in Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) in the south east of Ireland. His background is experience is in Internet technologies and in artificial intelligence. This includes an interest in XML technologies for document-centric programming and for middleware programming. More recently he has been involved in security, mobility and quality of service for next generation networks (IPv6).

The TSSG has grown from around 5 people in 1996 to 110 in July 2006 and has won over 20 Million EUR in funding from Irish and European funding agencies. For the academic years 2004-05 and 2005-06 he has taken on the role of Research Director for the centre, a position that involves operational management of the 50 staff and students working on basic and applied research projects in the TSSG, as well as academic leadership of the centre. Prior to taking over as Research Director his main areas of responsibility were in strategic infrastructure for the group and managing the research process for the research students in the TSSG. The TSSG’s has a history of over 50 funded projects where TSSG has had the role of leading partner in over 65% of those projects. In this 10 year period TSSG has established itself as an integrated centre with a critical mass of activities.

Aidan Dillon, Chief Executive Officer, Accuris Networks

Aidan joined Accuris Networks in 2003 where he currently oversees all of Accuris Networks as the CEO. Prior to joining Accuris Networks, Dillon headed the Mobile Networks Engineering division for IT services company LogicaCMG where he was responsible for the development and global deployment of both the Messaging and Mobility product lines. Dillon came to LogicaCMG via a merger with Aldiscon in 1997 where he oversaw its roaming, security and intelligent networking products business unit. Prior to that, he was a software engineer at Silicon and Software Systems (S3), a Royal Philips Electronics subsidiary. He earned his bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering and a research master’s degree engineering science from University College Dublin in Ireland in 1987 and 1989, respectively.
