    Gerard Smyth MSc has been with Intel for 7 years and presently works as a Senior Technologist with the Intel™ Innovation Centre. He has been predominantly engaged in research and development of innovative technologies in the area of wireless computing and also in the provision eLearning and mLearning. He was a key contributor to the development of the highly-acclaimed educational portal, ScoilNet and has also worked extensively on the award-winning skoool™ initiative. Currently, he is working on various international wireless initiatives and specializes in Wi-Fi and WiMAX technologies.

    John is one of the best-known mobile wireless consultants in the business. Anyone who has met John knows that he always speaks his opinion. Being honest – and giving his honest opinion on current issues in the mobile industry has become John’s trademark – even when it means being controversial or treading on some toes.

    John Strand’s uncanny ability to predict coming challenges for the mobile market and his straightforward attitude to what customers are doing right and wrong has made John a valued speaker at mobile conferences all over the world and he is constantly quoted in the Scandinavian and International press.

    Ajit Jaokar,

    With a unique perspective spanning multiple aspects of Mobile Applications, Ajit is an innovator and a pioneer in the Mobile Data industry. Ajit has been involved in developing and deploying mobile applications within communities since its early days. He was first exposed to SMS (text messaging) applications through a UK based company, which deployed SMS based alerts to customers in major UK shopping malls. Ajit was involved in understanding the community, the requirements of the retailers and the customers in formulating a strategy to introduce new services within the community (payments, multimedia, location etc.).

    Ajit has published a number of reports on topics such as MMS (Multimedia Messaging), DRM (Digital Rights Management) and worked with leading edge clients in Europe.
    His current area of focus includes Mobile gaming, Multiplayer mobile gaming and Bluetooth communities. His reports have been used by companies such as Nokia, ‘3′ etc. View Ajit’s Presentation from last year.

    Mícheál Ó Foghlú, Research Director, TSSG, WIT
    Mícheál Ó Foghlú is the Research Director of the Telecommunications Software & Systems Group (TSSG) in Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) in the south east of Ireland. His background is experience is in Internet technologies and in artificial intelligence. This includes an interest in XML technologies for document-centric programming and for middleware programming. More recently he has been involved in security, mobility and quality of service for next generation networks (IPv6).

    The TSSG has grown from around 5 people in 1996 to 110 in July 2006 and has won over 20 Million EUR in funding from Irish and European funding agencies. For the academic years 2004-05 and 2005-06 he has taken on the role of Research Director for the centre, a position that involves operational management of the 50 staff and students working on basic and applied research projects in the TSSG, as well as academic leadership of the centre. Prior to taking over as Research Director his main areas of responsibility were in strategic infrastructure for the group and managing the research process for the research students in the TSSG. The TSSG’s has a history of over 50 funded projects where TSSG has had the role of leading partner in over 65% of those projects. In this 10 year period TSSG has established itself as an integrated centre with a critical mass of activities.

    Aidan Dillon, Chief Executive Officer, Accuris Networks

    Aidan joined Accuris Networks in 2003 where he currently oversees all of Accuris Networks as the CEO. Prior to joining Accuris Networks, Dillon headed the Mobile Networks Engineering division for IT services company LogicaCMG where he was responsible for the development and global deployment of both the Messaging and Mobility product lines. Dillon came to LogicaCMG via a merger with Aldiscon in 1997 where he oversaw its roaming, security and intelligent networking products business unit. Prior to that, he was a software engineer at Silicon and Software Systems (S3), a Royal Philips Electronics subsidiary. He earned his bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering and a research master’s degree engineering science from University College Dublin in Ireland in 1987 and 1989, respectively.

    Wouldn’t it be nice if alongside all the “big names” that quite often speak at several conferences and hence cause a case of “heard-it-all-before-itis” we saw some names of people involved in new and refreshing initiatives?
    A fresh point of view is more liable to keep your “audience” glued to their seat rather than a confirmation of issues hashed out in the international technical press before…
    How about someone talking about the convergence of pervasive wireless networks, LBS, portal sites and web 2.0 applications?
